Africa-Press – Angola. The municipality of Camanongue, which is 52 kilometers from the city of Luena, province of Moxico, took a step towards defining the toponymy, with the conclusion of the collection of designation proposals.
According to a note from that Municipal Administration, the collection of proposals for toponyms has been completed in all districts of that municipality, in order to be assigned to streets, neighborhoods, towns, markets, cemeteries, schools, among others.
The process involved traditional authorities, members of residents’ committees, and the general population, according to the note.
In closing, the municipal director of Records and Local Administrative Modernization, João Basílio, said that after completing this stage, the data will be finalized, to be sent to the Provincial Process Monitoring Coordination.
The implementation of toponymy for State Local Administration Bodies was a recommendation of the 9th edition of the Forum of Municipalities and Cities of Angola (FMCA), held last August in the city of Lubango, province of Huíla.
According to the statement from that meeting, Municipal Administrations must speed up the process of attributing toponyms, so that by the date of the next FMCA the process is completed.
Administratively, the province has nine municipalities, namely Alto Zambeze, Bundas, Camanongue, Léua, Luacano, Luau, Luchazes, Cameia and Moxico.
With nine municipalities and 21 communes, the province of Moxico is limited to the north by the province of Lunda Sul and the Republic of Congo, to the east by Zambia, to the south by Cuando-Cubango and to the west by Bié.
