Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of Lunda-Norte, Deolinda Satula Vilarinho, announced this Monday, in Dundo, the inauguration, this month (April), of the Luachimo hydroelectric dam, with an installed capacity of 34 megawatts (MW).

When speaking at the opening of the first ordinary meeting of the local government, which analyzes the socio-economic situation of Lunda-Norte, the governor revealed that some arrangements are being made related to civil engineering, final tests of the turbines, among other technical details for the entry into full operation of the largest energy project in eastern Angola.

He reiterated that the dam’s entry into full operation will help attract investment to the province as well as reduce fuel costs and improve the environment as it is clean energy.

He appealed to the population to preserve the energy transmission lines under construction, denouncing any act of vandalization, so that the perpetrators could be held criminally responsible.

Budgeted at 212 million dollars, the project includes the rehabilitation of mechanical equipment and the execution of a new hydraulic circuit sized for 240 cubic meters of water per second, consisting of a water intake, adduction channel, loading chamber and return channel.

The project includes the recovery of the 85-kilometer high-voltage transmission line to the mining town of Nzagi, in the municipality of Cambulo, with an additional value estimated at 40 million dollars.

The last stage of the project foresees the expansion of the distribution network to the Lucapa headquarters, including the town of Calonda.

The transport line will also pass through the towns of Fucauma and Cassanguidi, taking into account the existence of economic activities, especially in the mining sector.
