Africa-Press – Angola. The Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication has “a broad Communication and Marketing Plan” to successfully guarantee coverage of the 2024 General Population and Housing Census, taking place in the country from July to August.

This guarantee was given on Tuesday, in Cabinda, by the Secretary of State for Social Communication, Nuno Caldas, when he spoke at the first seminar on the Census/2024, addressed to social communication professionals, analysts and students, having stressed that the plan aims to provide a quality public service during the census.

To this end, he considered it essential to train media professionals who will have the mission of informing, raising awareness and promoting the participation of all Angolans in this commitment to citizenship.

Therefore, he said, the supervisory ministry is paying special attention to the training, preparation and improvement of staff, aiming to carry out tasks that contribute to improving the quality of the service.

He underlined that the mission of communicating falls, par excellence, to social communication professionals, with particular emphasis on journalists, who play an important role in the process of transmitting information and shaping social consciousness.

According to Nuno Caldas, the processes of communication and coverage of events such as the census represent the highest point in the exercise of citizenship and democracy, playing an irreplaceable role in interaction and in the transmission of messages to raise awareness and mobilize all citizens.

He recalled that the media, journalists and opinion makers have the responsibility to facilitate the dissemination of necessary messages and clarifications about the census.

During the seminar, promoted by the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, in partnership with the National Institute of Statistics (INE), professionals from various media outlets were trained in articles on journalistic coverage of the census, with emphasis on the cartographic updating, census stages, among other content.

On the occasion, the deputy governor for the Economic Sector of Cabinda, Macário Lembe, considered the census as an activity that contributes to supporting decision-making and outlining development policies for the public and private sector.
