Africa-Press – Angola. The National Police foiled, last Thursday, in the municipality of Chicala-Cholohanga, province of Huambo, the forgery and attempted insertion of 20,800 US dollars (USD) into the financial circuit.
In a press release distributed this Monday, the police forces report the arrest, in the act, of a 51-year-old national citizen, in the São José neighborhood, on the outskirts of the municipal town of Chicala-Cholohanga, when he tried to introduce the aforementioned notes in the financial system.
He states that the incident occurred at a time when the person involved intended to exchange 20,800 US dollars, supposedly fake, for 300,000 Kwanzas to a citizen, who, after several negotiations and upon realizing that he was involved with a fraudster, called the National Police, by telephone.
After due diligence, it was possible to seize 20 thousand 800 US dollars and 10 million 175 thousand readjusted Kwanzas, out of circulation and also fake.
The person involved and the respective amounts will be forwarded to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, for necessary legal procedures.
It should be remembered that the last seizure of allegedly fake foreign currency occurred in April 2022, when the Security forces detained, in this region of the country, five citizens who were trying to introduce 50 million US dollars into the foreign exchange market.
Located in the Central Highlands of Angola, the province of Huambo has an estimated population of two million, 700 thousand inhabitants, distributed across 11 municipalities and 37 communes.
