Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy governor for the Political, Social and Economic sector of the province of Huambo, Angelino Elavoco, highlighted, this Monday, the engagement of the Local Development Institute (FAS) in improving the well-being of communities.
The person in charge was speaking at the opening of the FAS training cycle, aimed at 60 trainers and supervisors of Community and Health Development Agents (ADECOS) in the provinces of Benguela, Bié and Huambo, scheduled to end on May 3rd.
On the occasion, the vice-governor said that FAS, like other public or private organizations, has intervened in communities with the aim of contributing to the promotion of conditions for sustainable and participatory development of the population, through programs to combat poverty and economic stability.
He mentioned that these actions have been carried out with specialized forces in different segments of active life in the areas of health, agriculture and social action, hence the national program of Community Development Agents constitutes the reaffirmation of the commitment to expand social services to all communities and to stimulate its development.
From this perspective, he encouraged the 60 participants in the FAS training cycle, with themes such as “Promotion for behavior change, “Municipalization of social action, “Monitoring of Mother and Child”, among others, to commit to training, to better replicate the knowledge.
For her part, the head of FAS in the province of Huambo, Chimuma de Oliveira, said that the event aims to bring social services closer to communities and contribute to ensuring the effectiveness of the expansion of the municipalization of social action and the Kwenda project in All country.
He recalled that the Program for Strengthening Social Protection and Social Monetary Transfers (Kwenda), locally, has already covered the municipalities of Bailundo, Cachiungo, Ecunha, Londuimbali and Mungo, with more than 210 thousand families covered.
He said that efforts are being made, in partnership with the provincial government, so that Kwenda will cover, in the near future, the 11 municipalities that make up this region of the country.
He added that if implemented, the municipalities of Caála and Huambo could be the last to benefit from the project, taking into account their specificities.
Kwenda, an initiative of the Angolan Government, has, among several challenges, the promotion of local development, which consists of improving access for needy families to basic services and economic opportunities, as well as strengthening institutional capacities, rehabilitation and construction of infrastructure. social and economic structures.
It is valued at 420 million US dollars, with financing from the World Bank of 320 million dollars, while the remaining 100 million comes from the National Treasury, to assist, in phases, one million, 608 thousand needy families in the country.
