José Massano announces new financing for agriculture

Africa-Press – Angola. The Campaign Agricultural Credit, which last year was taken over by a single bank, in the next agricultural campaign (2024-2025) will be extended to the entire financial system, announced Tuesday, in the municipality of Matala, province of Huíla, the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, José de Lima Massano.

Speaking to journalists at the end of a visit in which he assessed the functioning of the main production support infrastructures, such as the irrigation canal and the hydroelectric dam, he stated that these incentives mean that there will be more resources to support national production, especially for those operating in agriculture.

“Access to credit is the main concern we hear, but FADA has been doing a remarkable job and we are launching the light agricultural mechanization program, with motor-cultivators. We are organizing ourselves so that the 2024/25 campaign can take place with greater security”, he highlighted.

The minister also defended the need to make the most of available infrastructure, so that a little more can be produced.

“Last year we made the decision to transfer the management of the perimeters to provincial governments and municipal administrations, today we came to see how the exploration of the canal is beginning to gain strength and boost local production, because cooperatives and organized associations are in place”, he highlighted.

The municipality of Matala is 180 kilometers east of Lubango, capital of Huíla and has an estimated population of more than 300 thousand inhabitants. It has the largest irrigation canal in the country, measuring 42 kilometers and covering almost 10 thousand hectares.
