Africa-Press – Angola. The Government of Cuanza-Norte honored, this Tuesday, in Ndalatando, the athletes from the province who participated in the African Judo OPEN, which ended on Sunday (7), at Piscina do Alvalade, in Luanda.

Athletes and technical staff were awarded an honorable mention and a cell phone each.

The fighters Rosa Luamba, Olga Bento and Francisca Manuel, who stood out most in the event, winning gold, silver and bronze medals, also received portable computers.

On Monday night, as part of the tribute, the judokas were received by the provincial governor and participated in a march through the main arteries of the city of Ndalatando.

The vice-governor for the Political, Social and Economic Sector, Luzia Bartolomeu, who presided over the event, on behalf of the governor, João Diogo Gaspar, said that the honor reflects the satisfaction with the achievement of local judokas.

He guaranteed support from the provincial government for the development of sport and judo in particular.

He stated that the delivery of the province’s judokas requires greater commitment from all citizens in Cuanza-Norte to improve conditions, especially training, so that they continue on the path to victory.

The vice-governor said that judo is the sport that best illustrates the cultural, sporting and intellectual capacity of youth in Cuanza-Norte.

He urged the athletes to continue working hard for more individual and collective achievements, raising the prestige of the province and promoting interest in joining the practice of this sport among young people.

Governor defends massification of sport in the province

In his speech on Monday, during the tribute to the athletes, governor João Diogo Gaspar urged youth in the province to practice sports, to revive the district’s history in various forms.

The governor appealed to young people to continue participating in sports in order to make their dreams come true.

According to João Gaspar, the province has many potential for the development of sport and that, with the necessary support, athletes can occupy top positions in the national and international arena.

To this end, João Diogo Gaspar guaranteed the support of the Provincial Government for the massification of sport.

For Olga Bento, who has already won a silver medal in Senegal, with more support for the province, athletes can bring more joy to the population.

The athletes from Club Ranger Cuanza Norte were part of the National Judo Team that participated in the “Open International” in Luanda.

The judoka won, in the under 70 kg category, in the junior category, the gold medal and, in the senior category, the bronze.

In turn, Rosa Luamba, in the under 63kgs category, in juniors, won the silver medal. Francisca Manuel (-52 kgs), in cadets, also won the silver medal.

In the women’s category, athletes Maria Niangi and Andreza António also won the gold medal for the National Team, achievements that place the hosts in first place in the general classification.

In the tournament that started at junior level, Angola won a total of 36 medals, 11 gold, 10 silver and 15 bronze.

In men, gold medals were Leonardo Barros (60 kgs), António Candeeiro (73 kgs), Adriano Tchissende (90 kgs), Pedro Edmilson (66 kgs) and Wilson Afonso (81 kgs).

In the African competition, contested by 181 athletes from 21 countries, Bosnia, as a guest, occupied second place in the classification, with two gold medals, followed by Cameroon, with one gold.

National judokas won eight gold medals and five silver medals, against zero from their opponents.

The event was attended by representatives from Angola, Burundi, Bosnia, Botswana, Central African Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, DRC, Cape Verde, Gabon, Morocco, Malawi, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, Uruguay, Panama and Paraguay, the last three as guests.
