Africa-Press – Angola. The president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, received, this Wednesday, in Luanda, separately, the ambassadors of China and Norway accredited in Angola, with whom she discussed matters of common interest.

Strengthening cooperation in regional and international matters was discussed with the Chinese diplomat, Zhang Bin, and with the Norwegian, Bjornar Dahl Hotvedt, the exchange of experience in the parliamentary field.

At the end of the hearing, the Chinese ambassador, Zhang Bin, said that the two countries will strengthen cooperation and dialogue on regional and international matters, as part of joint efforts to defend peace, security and promote regional development.

The diplomat said there is a desire to reinforce high-level exchanges between the two parliamentary institutions and cooperation between specialized committees and friendship groups of the National Assembly and the People’s Congress of China.

He stressed that during the meeting the materialization of the consensus reached during President João Lourenço’s state visit to the People’s Republic of China was also reviewed.

On the occasion, he conveyed the greetings of the president of the Standing Committee of the People’s Assembly of China, Zhao Leji, to the leader of the Angolan parliament.

Angola and China established diplomatic relations on January 12, 1983, opening a new chapter in the history of traditional friendship between the two countries.

Angola and Norway Cooperation

For his part, the ambassador of Norway, who congratulated the organization, in October 2023, in Luanda, of the 147th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIP), expressed the need to intensify the exchange of experience between delegations from the parliaments of the two countries and the creation of friendship groups.

Regarding bilateral cooperation, he announced the soon opening of the Angolan embassy in Norway.

The diplomat added that his country is interested in continuing to strengthen cooperation in the commercial sector, specifically in the oil sector, and attracting Norwegian companies to Angola outside of oil.

Bilateral cooperation between both countries gained momentum mainly in the political-diplomatic and economic and commercial domains.

On a political level, the two States are linked by 45 years of diplomatic relations, dating back to the beginnings of independence, achieved on November 11, 1975, which placed Norway among the first Western countries to recognize Angola’s national sovereignty.
