CAN football for amputees postponed until May

Africa-Press – Angola. The African Football Championship for amputees, initially scheduled for the 18th to the 29th of this month, in Egypt, was postponed to May, this Wednesday, in Luanda.

According to a source from the Angolan Paralympic Committee (CPA), the event should only take place from the 18th to the 30th of next month, on the same stage.

The reason for the change is not yet clear, but in a first analysis it would be combined with the fact that Ramadan is in force in that Arab country, from the 10th to the 18th of April.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, in which most Muslims practice fasting (a determined period of rest in which food is not eaten).

It is a time of renewal of faith, more intense practice of charity and a profound experience of fraternity and the values of family life.

Regarding the postponement of the event, the national selector, Augusto Baptista “Cheto”, from the Turkish city of Antalya, that the decision will cause enormous disruption to the preparation of the national combine.

The coach said that the team is in the final stages of work and is at its peak sporting form.

“The change in date will imply the restart of the training process”, lamented the coach who led Angola to the title of world champion (Mexico’ 2018).

He explained that the internship ends on the 14th, according to the program, but that before that Angola will play three friendly games.

On the 12th and 14th, the African champion (Benguela’2019) will face its counterpart Uzbekistan and Iran on the 13th.

Departure from the training site to Istanbul will be on the 14th, after the confrontation with Uzbekistan, while arrival in the country will take place on the 16th.

Cheto said that the national combine returns including the international athletes who evolve in Turkey and that, depending on the CPA’s guidance, he will dismiss the group and a week later there will be a new concentration, in Luanda.

Constitution of the National Team:

Goalkeepers – Sebastião Canjiluca (Misto do Huambo), Jesus Mateus (Bengo) and Ambrósio Chilala (Benguela).

Also part of the national team are midfielders Laurindo Lucamba (Huambo), José Cambanje (Huambo), José João (Luanda) and striker Sabino Joaquim – Cap (Moxico).

Completing the group are defenders Paciência Félix, Francisco Amaro and Manuel Lingate, midfielders Lucas Fungula, Catarino de Carvalho, Jesus Morais, as well as attackers Heno Guilherme, Pedro Vicente and José Candeeiro.
