Africa-Press – Angola. Three hundred motorcycle taxi drivers in Ndalatando, capital of Cuanza-Norte, received helmets on Monday to prevent road accidents.
The means of protection were delivered by the provincial governor of Cuanza-Norte, João Diogo Gaspar, during the provincial event commemorating the 14th of April, Angolan Youth Day.
On the occasion, the governor clarified that the gesture is a recognition of the role of motorcycle taxi drivers in mitigating the difficulties of transporting people and goods in the region.
The governor recommended that motorcycle taxi drivers use helmets to reduce exposure to the risk of injury in the event of an accident and promised to pay more attention to these professionals, for the dignity of the class.
Generally, except in the city, where the use of a helmet is mandatory, many motorcycle taxi drivers drive without protection, including their passenger.
In his address regarding the anniversary, João Diogo Gaspar defended the strengthening of inclusive dialogue with youth, to identify and resolve the social, economic, cultural and political problems of this fringe.
He also appealed to the leaders of religious, cultural and sporting youth associations and party organizations to strengthen inter-youth dialogue.
During the event, messages were read from the Provincial Office of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports and the Provincial Youth Council, which highlighted the need to build and equip more infrastructure to support young people.
The ceremony, held at Cine Ndalatando, was attended by members of the Provincial Government, youth associations and motorcycle taxi drivers.
The activity took place under the motto: “Empowered Youth, Developed Angola”
