Africa-Press – Angola. The lack of payment of allowances for management positions and pensions to the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) dominated the complaints filed, in the last three months, at the Ombudsman’s Office in the province of Huambo.

Of the 183 complaints registered by the institution during the first quarter of the current year (compared to 30 in the same previous period), 65 percent correspond to complaints about the non-subsidization of management positions and obligations to the INSS.

The information was provided, this Tuesday, by the institution’s technician in Huambo, Francisco Ekuikui Ndunduma, as part of the launch of the Ombudsman’s Week, taking place from the 19th to the 28th of this month, under the motto “The Ombudsman as mediator of conflicts between citizens and Public Administration”.

He said that complaints about the lack of these subsidies resulted from a group of workers from the provinces of Bié and Huambo, whose cases were forwarded to the central structure of the Ombudsman’s Office, in Luanda, of which 41 have already been resolved.

He highlighted the cooperation of the INSS provincial services in Huambo to overcome the concerns of pensioners, resolving the lack of retirement, death, birth and other benefits deserved by workers.

He added that other complaints are related to procedural slowness, violation of the rights of detainees and prisoners, unsanitary conditions in the Cambiote do Huambo prison and the failure to provide food.

Regarding the Ombudsman’s Week, Francisco Ekuikui Ndunduma informed that the opening of the activities will be marked with two lectures, namely “The Ombudsman as a mediator of conflicts, between pensioners and the INSS” and “The Ombudsman as a mediator of conflicts , between the citizen and the Public Administration”.

He said that clarification visits to the Central Military Region Command staff were also planned, as well as the holding of a Justice fair in the courtyard of the Huambo Provincial Library, with the aim of publicizing the rights of citizens

He added that the initiative has, among other objectives, the expansion of citizens’ public knowledge about the Ombudsman, recognition of its importance in strengthening the awareness of State institutions in improving the services provided and strengthening the public mediator role.

Since 2005, Angola has celebrated April 19th as Ombudsman’s Day.

The Ombudsman is an independent public entity, whose purpose is to defend the rights, freedoms and guarantees of citizens, to ensure, through informal means, justice and the legality of Public Administration activity.

Citizens can present their complaints and complaints to the Ombudsman in writing, at the counter, email, fax, portal or verbally, in person or by telephone, which are then transformed into documents and sent to the ombudsman or deputy ombudsman in case of absence of the provider.
