Vice-president of the MPLA highlights PR's commitment to the search for peace

Africa-Press – Angola. The vice-president of the MPLA, Luísa Damião, reiterated, this Sunday, in the town of Catete, the recognition of the commitment and dedication of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, in the search for peace in the Great Lakes region.

The vice-president spoke at the service of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the World (Tocoísta), which marked the end of the pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Catete, which took place from the 17th to the 21st of this month.

On the occasion, he emphasized that, in his guise as Champion of Peace, the president of the MPLA and of all Angolans, “has been fighting incessantly for peace in the Great Lakes region”.

This Sunday’s event, which brought together around two million devotees from various provinces and abroad, aimed to intercede for peace in the world, especially for political stability in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

According to Luísa Damião, peace is the indispensable condition for the development of any country, which is why she hailed the Tocoísta Church for being a defender of peace, following the inspiration of the founding prophet Simão GonçalvesToco.

He praised the church for its evangelization, moralization of society and pacification of spirits, so that everyone continues to consolidate peace and be its guardians.

Addressing women, he said that they have always shown clear evidence of being educators par excellence, agents of change and promoters of development.

He appealed to all Angolans to continue to preserve peace, and asked for everyone’s contribution, following the example and faith of the prophets David, the wisdom of Solomon and the unity of Mary, mother of Jesus, to make Angola a country that everyone should be proud.

On the other hand, he asked all Tocoist devotees to continue spreading the importance of peace.

In turn, the president of UNITA, Adalberto Costa Júnior, said that “it makes perfect sense” for Tocoists to pray for peace in the DRC, as, he explained, the world is currently experiencing dangerous conflicts, such as that between Ukraine and Russia and the Middle East. Instruct that “we must pray so that they do not spread”.

He said that citizens often forget about their continent, despite coups d’état occurring in many parts of Central Africa, with conflicts in Mozambique, for which one must pray to achieve peace.

“The peace that everyone should pray for must translate into having meals during the day, a life with dignity, the right to school, employment and happiness for all”, he reinforced.

The pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Catete is annual and, in this 2024 edition, the 89th anniversary of the theophany of Simão Gonçalves Toco was celebrated, under the motto “Let us celebrate the theophany with prayer to God in favor of peace in the world and stability in the DRC”.
