Africa-Press – Angola. The Secretary of State for Human Rights and Citizenship, Ana Januário, appealed Friday, in Malanje, to citizens to be transmitters of the 2024 Census message, with a view to mass participation of the population in this process, which begins next July.
When speaking at the presentation and clarification meeting of the general Population and Housing Census, Ana Januário said it was an operation that should engage everyone without exception, showing collaboration in the civic and urban exercise that has always characterized Angolans.
“The census is a media event that should mobilize everyone and we hope for your simple contribution to this process, taking into account the value, symbolism and reference within the community”, he stressed.
Regarding the meeting, the secretary emphasized that the activity is not only enlightening, but also mobilizing everyone to actively participate in this process, in the certainty that the act constitutes an added value for the engagement and mobilization of citizens before, during and after of the census process.
According to the person responsible, the Census is considered to be a more complex and massive statistical operation that a country can carry out in times of peace, whose preparation must be especially careful, in order to guarantee that its execution complies with all the principles of rigor and success and its high quality statistical information.
However, he highlighted the role of the media and religious, traditional and youth leaders who in this process have always played their pedagogical and mediating role in promoting citizenship and patriotic elevation.
He stressed that the mission of raising awareness, mobilizing and communicating about the increasingly global world concerns everyone, with particular emphasis on journalists who play an important role in the process of transmitting information and shaping social consciousness.
“Journalists and opinion makers who are responsible for facilitating the transmission of the message and necessary clarifications about the Census are called here,” he added.
He asked for loyalty from the population in providing information to census agents, so that census data allows a rational approach to the coordination of macro-policies and innovation of growth, economic and financial models to be more efficient.
The information meeting was aimed at journalists, members of the defense and security forces, traditional authorities, religious people, leaders of youth associations, civil society and teachers.
The province of Malanje, located on the northern plateau of Angola, has an area of 97 thousand 602 km2 and a population of around 986 thousand 363 inhabitants, according to the 2014 Census.
The region is made up of 14 municipalities, namely Cacuso, Cahombo, Calandula, Cambundi-Catembo, Cangandala, Kiwaba Nzoji, Kunda-Dya-Baze, Luquembo, Malanje, Marimba, Massango, Mucari, Quela and Quirima.
