Africa-Press – Angola. Multi-sector delegations from Angola and Tanzania began technical work in Luanda, on Wednesday (29), to prepare for the 3rd Session of the Bilateral Commission between the two countries, scheduled for Thursday (30th).
According to a press release, the delegations are led by Ambassadors José Paulino Cunha da Silva, Director of International Cooperation at Angola’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ali Sakila Bujiku, Director for Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Republic of Tanzania.
In his welcoming address, Ambassador José Paulino Cunha da Silva stated that relations between Angola and Tanzania, forged in the common ideals of freedom and justice during the struggle for the emancipation of African peoples, have evolved remarkably over recent decades.
He added that the ties of friendship, brotherhood, and solidarity uniting the two countries and their Heads of State, João Lourenço (Angola) and Samia Suluhu Hassan (Tanzania), guarantee the success of the work.
In this context, he recalled that the primary goal of this Technical Session is to prepare the groundwork for a fruitful Ministerial Session to be held July 30.
He stressed that it is up to the experts and technical teams to conduct a rigorous and thorough analysis of the implementation status of the commitments made at the 2nd Session of the Joint Commission, held in Tanzania in Jan 2024, and during the State visit of President Samia Suluhu Hassan to Angola in April 2025.
The Director of International Cooperation at MIREX also clarified that the newly formed working sub-committees will be tasked with examining in detail the political-diplomatic, economic, social, and defence and security issues on the agenda.
He also highlighted the importance of finalizing negotiations for new legal instruments which, once signed, will strengthen the legal framework for cooperation between the two countries.
The diplomat urged all delegations to work with a spirit of openness, leadership, and camaraderie, ensuring that the reports resulting from this meeting accurately reflect the shared desire to deepen bilateral cooperation between Angola and Tanzania.
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Angola and the United Republic of Tanzania were formally established in 1976 following the proclamation of Angola’s National Independence.
Since then, the two countries have cultivated a relationship based on historical solidarity, friendship, and political-diplomatic cooperation.
Rooted in the ties of solidarity forged during the liberation struggles in Africa, bilateral relations reached a major milestone with the holding of the 1st Session of the Bilateral Joint Commission in 1989 in Dar es Salaam.
Thirty-five years later, in Jan 2024, the 2nd Session of the Bilateral Joint Commission gave fresh impetus to cooperation between the two states, marked by the signing of 4 legal instruments and the definition of new areas of partnership.
