Deputy calls for greater appreciation of women

Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy of the UNITA Parliamentary Group, Arleth Chibinda, called, this Saturday, in Huambo, for greater appreciation and empowerment of women, especially street vendors.

The parliamentarian, who was speaking during a meeting with some street vendors from Huambo, as part of the day commemorating UNITA Deputy Day, celebrated on Wednesday (8), said they were women who, for the most part, play the role of mother and father in the family, which has not been easy.

He mentioned that, in order to ensure their children’s education, they have left home in the early hours of the morning, with the aim of going to sell and, often, at the end of the day, they return without any profit, with countless family problems to face, such as lack of owning a home, decent healthcare, clothing, among other vulnerabilities.

Arleth Chibinda said that the problems that women in the country face are similar in all regions, hence more interaction and will is needed for their quick resolution or minimization.

She promised, as a deputy, to propose this topic to decision-making bodies so that women’s rights are more respected and valued, especially street vendors, who experience many difficulties, to reduce the family needs they face.

She asserted that women’s empowerment consists of technical-professional training, literacy, organization in cooperatives and micro-credits, so that they have the necessary conditions to achieve family self-sustenance.

Since Wednesday in the province of Huambo, parliamentarians have held courtesy meetings with the Government, the Archbishopric of the local diocese, as well as visits to the General Hospital, Benguela Railway Station and informal markets.

Under the motto “UNITA Parliamentary Group for local authorities at the service of the citizen”, the program reserves worship and masses for Sundays in various religious denominations in Huambo.

UNITA Deputy’s Day is celebrated in honor of parliamentarian Raúl Danda, who died on May 8, 2022, as well as the contribution of all deputies who, since the first legislature, in 1992, until the present date, exercise their functions to represent, legislate and monitor with the aim of building a prosperous Angola.
