Africa-Press – Angola. The Municipal Administration of Caconda, province of Huíla, terminated contracts with two contractors due to technical and financial inability to complete works under the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM).
The first has been paralyzed for a year and the second for two, both with 90 percent physical and financial execution, affecting Tx Vunge and Somer.
This involves the 38-kilometer earthworks between the villages of Cruzeiro and Holongui, as well as the electrification of the municipal headquarters, the termination process of which began six and eight months ago respectively.
When talking about the matter, the municipal administrator, Nandim Capenda, said that after a technical assessment and approach to the contractors, their technical incapacity was observed and the termination was completed last April.
“Now we are going to hold a new public tender to complete the two projects. If it is possible to do so with the available amounts, we will complete the projects, they are the only two PIIM works that will go to a second tender for completion”, he stated.
He explained that the earthmoving contract foresees 50 kilometers, but the Cruzeiro-Holongui section is 38, so work was carried out on the remaining 12 on some streets inside neighborhoods in the municipality.
As for energy, according to the source, it aims to expand the public lighting network at the Caconda headquarters from 226 to a thousand household connections, as well as the lighting fixtures, with the installation of a new system supported by two generators with 1.6 megawatts and reaching two megawatts.
The municipality has eight PIIM projects, in the areas of health, education, access roads and energy, valued at one billion, 321 million, 559 thousand, 247 kwanzas. Of these, four have already been completed and are available to the population, and two are awaiting equipment.
The completed projects include two schools with seven classrooms, located in the Dengue neighborhood and Cue 2, a medical center in the latter location and another in Bandeira. Those that are in the equipping phase have an operating room and a school with seven classrooms in Holongui.
The municipality of Caconda has an area of 1,715 square kilometers and an estimated population of 227,362 inhabitants. It is limited, to the North, by the municipalities of Ganda (Benguela) and Longonjo (Huambo), to the East by Caála (Huambo) and Chipindo, to the South by Chicomba and to the West by the municipality of Caluquembe, Huíla.
