Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, will, this Friday (17), inaugurate the Luachimo Hydroelectric Plant, in the province of Lunda-Norte.

This is a structuring and strategic infrastructure that has a new hydraulic and central circuit with 34 MW of installed power, equipped with 4 generating groups of 8.5 MW each, indicates a note from the supervisory ministry this Thursday, in Luanda.

The work consisted of the rehabilitation of the existing enterprise and its increase in terms of electrical energy production capacity to meet the needs of Lunda-Norte.

The aforementioned project, according to the document, had an execution period of 87 months, having created 1000 direct jobs, covering a population of around 10,000 families.

The Luachimo dam was built in the 1950s to supply electricity to the city of Dundo and nearby mining areas, and currently has a new circuit.

According to the note, following the mission to the East of the country, the head of the Energy and Water sector will witness the act of consignment and laying of the stone for the construction project of the 86-kilometer line of the Dundo and Nzagi Corridor.

This is a project that arises within the scope of the objectives defined by the Angolan Executive, aimed at guaranteeing the population’s access to electricity and improving social conditions, as well as developing the agricultural and livestock and mining sectors.

In this sense, this rehabilitation plan for the existing line between AH Luachimo and SE Nzagi was devised.

This consists of the rehabilitation of the Nzagi, Fucauma substations and the electrification of the towns of Mucumbo, Fucauma, Cassanguidi, Luxilo and Nzagi.

In these locations, the MV, 30 Kv and BT distribution networks will be implemented, as well as the installation of the respective transformation stations (PT), in addition to the execution of around 1500 new household connections and 500 lighting points. public.
