Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, met, this Sunday, with the government of the province of Namibe, to find out about its socioeconomic situation and the progress of programs aimed at improving the well-being of the population.

The meeting is part of the agenda of the Angolan statesman’s visit to Namibe.

On the occasion, the governor of Namibe, Archer Mangueira, presented a detailed report on the socio-economic reality of the province, in which he highlighted the program to combat drought, and highlighted the execution of 39 projects to bring water to more than 200 thousand affected people, to in addition to watering cattle.

He spoke about the growth of the health sector, which gained 19 health units and 225 new professionals from 2021 to 2023, as part of the implementation of the Integrated Program for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM), which has already seen 99 projects implemented out of the 106 in the portfolio.

Archer Mangueira presented the status of the Moçâmedes Bay Integrated Development Project.

The project includes the rehabilitation of the Saco-Mar Mineral Port and its Pier Bridge, which began last year, as well as the expansion of the Commercial Port, also underway, and the new Container Terminal.

In relation to the challenges, he presented the need to carry out structural projects to combat drought, expand the health network and improve higher education, among others.
