Africa-Press – Angola. The president of the Angolan Federation of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Armando Diogo, has run for president of the African Confederation, in a vote that will take place next September in the country.

The event will take place during the organization’s general electoral assembly, which will take place in Angola due to its commitment to the massification and development of the sport in Africa and the world, in recent years.

Angola will organize the World Cup in 2026, in addition to having already hosted the African Championship (CAN) in 2023, in the province of Luanda, in which it became champion.

Speaking to the press this Wednesday, before the phased departure of the national teams to Windhoek (Namibia), stage of the 7th edition of CAN, from the 27th of this month to the 2nd of June, the current executive director of the continental body said he had already with the approval of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

“For this endeavor, we have already received the letter of comfort from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, through the holder, Rui Falcão”, he stressed, explaining that this document will be sent to the ministries of the 15 countries that support Angola’s candidacy.

The African Confederation of Martial Arts is led by Mauritanian, Avinash Ramtohul.

He added that the electoral “conclave” of the governing body of the sport on the continent will take place at a time when the federation and the Martial Arts club Evolution organize the second edition of the “Crime Zero” tournament.

The aim of the competition, according to the source, is to introduce young people and teenagers rescued from the streets and delinquency to society through the practice of martial arts.

Regarding the African from Namibia, Angola will participate with a group of 70 athletes, both sexes.

In the last edition, held at the Kilamba pavilion, Angola ranked first with 39 medals, 18 gold, 14 silver and seven bronze.
