Africa-Press – Angola. The National Assembly is holding, today, at its headquarters in Luanda, a seminar on the challenges of food security in the country with a view to finding solutions to improve health and care for children.

Under the theme “the challenges of food security and nutrition in Angola”, the initiative, within the framework of International Family Day, celebrated on the 15th of this month, aims, among other objectives, to promote a space for debate and political reflections on the nutrition in the country, as well as identifying solutions to put an end to malnutrition situations in Angola.

During the seminar, parliamentarians will address topics such as “the impact of malnutrition on children’s lives”, “bottlenecks for changes and opportunities for intervention by society and the State” and the “situation of food security in Angola”.

The seminar will feature, in addition to deputies, the participation of Government representatives, parliamentary officials and agents, Non-Governmental Organizations and experts in the area of ​​food security and nutrition.

The seminar is an initiative of the 8th Committee of the National Assembly, which deals with matters linked to family, childhood and social action.

International Family Day is celebrated annually on May 15th, to honor the institution of the family, an essential nucleus for the moral formation of all individuals. The date was proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) in 1994, and reflects the importance that the international community attaches to families.

The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, stated this month that the family, in Angola, is the object of special protection by the State.

When speaking at the opening of the 25th session of the National Family Council, held on Family Day, he said that, despite adverse conditions, at the international and national level, basic social protection and the inclusion of social groups in vulnerable situations have deserved the attention of the Executive, in compliance with the Africa Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, within the framework of the commitment to “leave no one behind”.

“The Angolan Executive understands that there is a permanent need for care in relation to the current state of Angolan society, which is the reason for implementing various policy measures and programs, with the aim of returning dignity to families”, highlighted the Vice-President of the Republic, In this ocasion.

The event, under the motto “Investing in Families and Achieving the Goals of the Sustainable Development Objectives”, was promoted by the Ministry of Social Action, Family and Promotion of Women.
