Africa-Press – Angola. The high-level colloquium celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union (AU), which ended on Saturday in Dar-es-Salaam (Tanzania), concluded that the future of the African continent It depends on the integral and sustainable economic development of countries and the empowerment and integration of young people, in accordance with Pan-African ideals.

A statement from the Embassy of Angola in Ethiopia, Permanent Mission to the African Union and UNECA, in Addis Ababa, states that the Forum, also part of the celebrations of the 25th of May, Africa Day, considered dialogue and inclusive consultation as vectors for the prevention, management and peaceful resolution of conflicts in Africa.

The event was attended, among other personalities, by the Tanzanian Head of State and acting president of the AU CPS for May 2024, Samia Suluhu Hassan, and the president of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat.

Both reiterated their condemnation of terrorist acts on the continent and called for the need to accelerate the implementation of the 2022 Malabo Declaration on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes of Government in Africa, adopted by the 16th Extraordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government, which occurred in Equatorial Guinea.

The colloquium adopted the Dar-es-Salaam Declaration which highlights the need for AU Member States to continue strengthening government institutions and accelerate socio-economic development programs, comprehensively addressing the structural and driving causes of conflicts.

It was also highlighted that it is imperative to redouble efforts in the field of Investments in Infrastructure, as well as the need to respond to the legitimate concerns of the population in promoting the nexus between Peace, Security, Stability and Development.

At the colloquium that began, on Friday, with a public class on “The peace and security we want in Africa”, at the University of Dar-es-Salaam, Angola was joined by a delegation led by the ambassador to Ethiopia and permanent representative to the Union African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Miguel César Domingos Bembe.

Haile Selassie became the first president of the organization that later became the current AU. The objective was to defend the Independence of colonized African countries, the fight against any and all colonialism or neocolonialism and the defense of the political, economic and social interests of the people.
