Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Mário Oliveira, participates, online, today and tomorrow, in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)+20 Forum 2024.

A statement states that the high-level event takes place from 27 to 31 May 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland, under the auspices of the ITU, UNESCO, UNDP, UNCTAD and the Swiss Confederation.

According to the document, minister Mário Oliveira will take the opportunity to explain the vision and strategy adopted by Angola to develop the ongoing national space program with the acquisition of the telecommunications satellite, AngoSat – 2, the main difficulties experienced in implementing this project , the positive transformation brought about with the acquisition of the satellite, as well as the future steps of the Angolan space program, the contributions to the development of the country and the southern region of the continent.

The (WSIS)+20 Forum 2024 considers space technology as an engine to connect technology and sustainable development, bringing together high-level participants from more than 160 countries in a commendable global effort over the past two decades.

On the other hand, the Forum’s high-level event is considered a significant milestone in twenty years of progress made in implementing the results of the World Summit on the Information Society, which took place in two phases — Geneva in 2003 and Tunis in in 2005.

“Twenty years ago, the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)I established the framework for global digital cooperation with the vision of building people-centered, inclusive and development-oriented information and knowledge societies.”

The WSIS+20 Forum 2024 high-level event serves as a platform for multilateral discussions with the aim of taking stock of achievements and main trends, challenges and opportunities since the Geneva Action Plan in 2003”, says the event organization.
