Africa-Press – Angola. The 27 de Maio Association praised, this Monday, the work of the Reconciliation Commission in Memory of the Victims of Political Conflicts, a mechanism for reconciliation and strengthening peace.

Speaking to the press, as part of the tribute to the victims of May 27th, the president of the aforementioned association, Silva Mateus, said that thanks to President João Lourenço, who created the commission, today it is possible to talk, without taboos, about the events of that era.

The tribute ceremony took place at the Alto das Cruzes Cemetery, where, after a minute of silence, a wreath was laid on the grave of one of the victims.

Silva Mateus said it was a date of very important significance that led to the reliving of the 27th of May 47 years ago.

Four years ago, the Angolan President created the Commission for the Implementation of the Reconciliation Plan in Memory of the Victims, with the mission of drawing up a general plan to pay homage to the victims of political conflicts since National Independence, on November 11, 1975, until to the signing of the Peace Agreement, on April 4, 2002.
