Africa-Press – Angola. The head of the provincial services of the Ombudsman’s Office in Cabinda, Santos de Araújo, defended the need to adapt prison establishments with conjugal rooms.

When speaking on the topic “fundamental rights and freedoms of prisoners”, last Wednesday, Santos de Araújo said that these are important infrastructures that contribute to maintaining the marital relationship of individuals who, due to the commission of any crime, are temporarily deprived of their freedom.

According to Santos de Araújo, the implementation of conjugal rooms could contribute to balancing the physiological, psychological and emotional components of prisoners.

He recalled that inmates, as detainees or prisoners, are normal citizens with rights and duties enshrined in law.

He encouraged professionals at the penitentiary unit to refrain from possible mistreatment and to continue to adopt a more professional and exemplary conduct in the exercise of their duties.

In turn, the provincial secretary for political and institutional affairs of the Government of Cabinda, Estanislau Barros, asked those responsible for prison establishments to continue with their commitment to the social rehabilitation of inmates, in order to allow their rapid social reintegration.
