Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Youth and Sports, Rui Falcão, assured, this Monday, the completion of works on the future Huambo Municipal Stadium, within the deadlines established between the Government and the contractor.

The minister was speaking to the press, after visiting the works on the aforementioned stadium, currently at a standstill, in the Cacilhas neighborhood, on the outskirts of the city of Huambo, with a capacity for 22 thousand spectators, whose construction began in April 2023, with completion scheduled for for the end of 2025.

Rui Falcão said he came to Huambo to see the construction of the sports infrastructure, as there are challenges and goals to be met.

Without specifying the length of the stoppage, he said that the works needed to start again, which is why he came to check the status of the project, its conditions and work with a contractor, for its immediate restart and recover the momentum that the stadium gained until December 2023.

The minister informed that the works are in the order of 40 percent physical execution, with only the external infrastructure of the field having been carried out, meaning that it will be necessary to start work on the athletics track, at a time when the stands are completed.

He lamented the state of some sports facilities in the province of Huambo, as they require a lot of work, so as not to hinder the good results recommended.

Minister Rui Falcão also visited the Osvaldo de Jesus Serra Van-Dúnem multipurpose pavilion, the Ferrovia do Huambo stadium and the Electro field.

It should be remembered that the construction of the Huambo Municipal Stadium, previously called Mambroa, takes place 12 years after the destruction of the old one, by government authorities, with the aim of building, on the site, another modern sports equipment with greater capacity.

The future stadium, with 11 thousand spectators for each stand, will have a category IV field, in accordance with the recommendations of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), for the practice of professional football, at the various levels.

The infrastructure, budgeted at 40 million dollars, from the State of Israel’s financing line, will have, among other compartments, four changing rooms for athletes, a medical emergency room, anti-doping control, an area for organs of social communication, comprising a press room, work room, TV and Radio studios, in addition to technical areas, as well as a Waste Water Treatment Plant.

It will also have conditions for practicing athletics corresponding to category III of the International Athletics Federation (IAAF), in the 100 meter, 110 meter hurdles, 200 meter, 4000 meter and 4100 meter relay events, pole vault, jumping high jump, long and triple high jump, javelin, shot put and hammer throwing.
