Petro will have to justify his title at Mundunduleno - Mário Soares

Africa-Press – Angola. Bravos do Maquis coach, Mário Soares, stated, this Friday, in Luena, that Petro de Luanda has the “obligation” to justify the title won in advance in Saturday’s clash, against Maquisardes, at the Mundunduleno stadium.

At the press conference to launch the 30th and final round of Girabola2023/24, won in advance by the oil companies, Mário Soares said that “Petro de Luanda will have to demonstrate in the game that they are the worthy winners of the championship”.

According to Mário Soares, to dignify the spectacle, the players will “fight” to counter the favoritism of the champion’s opponent, seeking to win the three points.

In this match, Mário Soares will be without Manico, Fredy, Nataniel, Chonene, all due to injury, while Kabamba was released to represent the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) team.

This will be the 46th match between the two teams, with absolute dominance by the Catetão team, which recorded 26 victories, against seven from the maquisardes and 12 draws.

In the last five games, Petro de Luanda won four, against Maquis none and a draw.

In history, Maquis’ biggest victory occurred on the 20th round of the Girabola in 2013, by 4-2, while the oil companies scored a 7-0 defeat, in the game on the fifth round of the championship in 2011.

Maquis occupies ninth place on the leaderboard, with 34 points, while Petro, already champion, is in first place, with 64 points.
