Africa-Press – Angola. Angola could be the turning point for Uruguayan investments in Southern Africa and some products from the region should be sold in that South American country.

The intention was expressed during a meeting that the delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX), headed by Secretary of State Domingos Custódio Vieira Lopes, held yesterday, with officials from the Uruguay/Africa Chamber of Commerce.

MIREX’s Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities presented the country’s reality and challenged the Uruguayan business community to invest capital in Angola and participate in investment fairs held in Angola.

The head of MIREX reinforced the existence, in Angola, of a free zone for the implementation of foreign investments, as well as remembering that Uruguay is one of the countries with the green light to enter the national territory, for a period of 90 days, without the need of obtaining a visa.

Domingos Vieira Lopes also made clarifications on the General Cooperation Agreement between Angola and Uruguay during the meeting.

On the occasion, the Angolan ambassador to Argentina, Azevedo Xavier Francisco, encouraged the Uruguayan business community to identify areas for the intended investment, calling the responsibility of the diplomatic mission to indicate the ways to complete the deal.

The diplomat also conveyed the Angolan Government’s commitment to expanding the tourism industry on a large scale.

For their part, those responsible for the Uruguay/Africa chamber, represented by Washington Fernández, accepted the proposals presented by the Angolan side, expressing their total willingness to make investments in Angola.

The Uruguay/Africa chamber of commerce was created on November 11, 2010, by a group of Uruguayan businessmen with the support of African countries accredited in Montevideo.

The delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is in Montevideo, visited the facilities of the Mercosur Parliament and held a courtesy meeting with the president of the institution, Fabiana Martin. The moment was used to strengthen the dialogue between the Mercosur Regional Parliament and the Republic of Angola.

On Tuesday, Secretary of State Domingos Vieira Lopes recognized that Uruguay has shown, in recent years, significant economic growth, with increased income and policies aimed at reducing poverty, placing it among the economies of Latin America which is growing at a good pace. This growth, he said, aroused Angola’s interest in establishing a cycle of cooperation with the reinforcement of the exchange of experiences in sectors of common interest.
