Africa-Press – Angola. The Executive has already secured financing for the launch, soon, of the plan to improve the water supply to the city of Lubango and the projects to combat drought, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, informed this Friday.
Speaking to the press, after the inauguration of the Matala Hydroelectric Plant, Huíla province, the Head of State acknowledged that the city of Lubango has a “very large” deficit in terms of water distribution.
Despite not specifying dates, the President assured that the authorizations have already been made “for a long time” and the financing is guaranteed, both for the Lubango city project and for the reservoirs and dams as part of the fight against the drought in the south of Angola.
He recalled that in relation to projects to combat drought, priority fell to the province of Cunene where the Cafu Canal was built and, next year, the Ndué, Calucuve and Cova do Leão dams will be completed.
As for the province of Huíla, the priority, in relation to combating drought, falls to the municipality of Gambos.
In this area, he said that attention will also be focused on the province of Namibe, where the construction of six dams is planned, in addition to small water projects, which should start soon.
Cassinga Mining Project
Regarding the construction of the electrical power line to the Cassinga mining area, President João Lourenço also guaranteed the existence of financing for its start-up.
He stated that the Executive is interested in seeing this mining project get underway, as well as the industrial program linked to it, which is the construction of the steel factory in the Sacomar region, city of Moçâmedes (Namibe).
