National Athletics: Marcos Dos Santos Wins in the 100 Meters

Africa-Press – Angola. Without needing to make an effort and running cautiously, Marcos dos Santos won gold on Saturday, in the 100 meters freestyle at the 44th National Track and Field Championships, senior category, which are still taking place at the Estádio Municipal dos Coqueiros.

Despite all the constraints, the national record holder did “enough” to not leave the credit in other people’s hands. He crossed the finish line in 10s65, that is, 34 seconds beyond the best record. Even so, he delighted the fans who flocked to the venue and applauded him since the preliminary rounds.

Arão Simão (10s95) and Fernando Satutela (11s35), both from Interclube, took the next places in the classification. Constância Marques, 12s76, won the women’s 100 meters. In the triple jump, Jorge Brandão jumped 6.43 meters and was crowned champion.

The director of the event, José Manuel “Zemas”, assured that the motivation of the athletes and the presence of the public are factors that contribute to the latest results achieved by Angolans in international events throughout the year.

“According to our reality, the level is good. You can see that the athletes are more motivated, the timing is electronic, we are monitoring the performance and there are things to correct. But the level is different”, he analyzed.

The championships are contested by 13 teams representing Luanda, Cuanza-Sul and Bengo. Initially, 15 teams were registered, but two teams from Huíla failed to participate in the events. Middle-distance and long-distance running, sprinting, hurdles, shot put, javelin, discus, high jump and long jump are the technical disciplines contested.
