Africa-Press – Angola. The António Agostinho Neto Foundation (AAN) on Wednesday in the municipality of Icolo e Bengo, launched a cycle of conferences called Netianas.
During the launching of the project, the chairman of the foundation, Maria Eugénia Neto, said that the Netianas Conference Cycle is an instrument capable of generating knowledge and aims to promote debates around the different facets of the national Hero, António Agostinho Neto, the country’s first president.
She added that it is intended that the new generations continue to equip themselves with sufficient information, developing a more extensive knowledge of those who dared to challenge the colonial regime.
The choice of the municipality of Icolo e Bengo, to launch the project, in the month dedicated to the Founder of the Nation, aims to pay homage to the nationalist who was born in this soil, in which several Angolans rose up against the colonial administration, demanding the end of the “contract system” who took several Angolans to forced labor in Sao Tome, or reacted fiery against the arrest of Agostinho Neto.
Maria Eugénia Neto considers it important for youth to improve their curiosity, gain an in-depth knowledge of the history of Angola by researching issues on Agostinho Neto and other heroes, men and women, who fought voluntarily, passionately and selflessly, so that everyone today have access to the dynamics of the modern world, as free people.
