The Secretary of the Bureau is against the idea of erecting a three-dimensional statue in Largo da Independência: Agostinho Neto, Savimbi and Holden Roberto as fathers of the Nation. Isaías Samakuva, from UNITA, and Ngola Kabangu, from FNLA, disagree with the argument of the academic and MPLA politician.
The Secretary of the MPLA Political Bureau for State Reform, Public Administration and Local Authorities disapproves of the idea of statues of nationalists Jonas Savimbi and Holden Roberto in a single dimension, in Largo da Independência. Mário Pinto de Andrade refuted the thesis of nationalist Ngola Kabangu and historical activist of UPA/FNLA in the round table “The Paths of Angola’s Independence”, from 1961 to 1975 – A reflection on the past, present and future of the country.
According to Mário Pinto de Andrade, for having proclaimed the Independence of Angola in 1975, António Agostinho Neto is the only father of the nation, alluding that Largo da Independência is exclusive to Neto.
Despite disagreeing with the division of Largo da Independência, Mário Pinto de Andrade defends the dignity of all nationalists in the country, including Jonas Savimbi, Holden Roberto and other kings.
Ngola Kabangu, a politician from the FNLA, disagrees with Mário Pinto de Andrade’s narrative when he states that Angola as a country was born in Alvor, with Agostinho Neto, Holden Roberto and Jonas Savimbi.
