Africa-Press – Angola. The Bishop of the Diocese of Ondjiva, Province of Cunene, Dom Pio Hipunyati, on Saturday reaffirmed the mission of Omulunga, the commitment of the church in the moralization of communities for the construction of a healthy and harmonious society.
The religious leader was speaking on the sidelines of the ordination ceremony of 13 new priests and a deacon, in a ceremony led by the Apostolic Nuncio of Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe, Dom Kryspin Dubiel.
According to the bishop, the church, as a partner of the State, works on actions linked to education, health and the recovery of moral and civic values, in addition to the transmission of the gospel.
Dom Pio Hipunyati recalled that since the beginning, the church plays an important role in the communities, through the promotion of actions related to the training and well being of the communities.
He highlighted that the first schools of the province were associated to the Catholic Church, resulting in the training of several cadres of Angola.
“We have always been concerned with elevating citizenship practices, the integral formation of the person, not only in the spiritual aspect, but above all in academic instruction and hospital care”, he maintained.
In turn, the Apostolic Nuncio, Dom Kryspin Dubiel, expressed his happines with the ordination of new priests who will serve as communities, highlighting the need to dedicate themselves to the unity of the church.
The Representative of the Vatican is in Cunene for a four-day visit, where he presided over this Sunday’s mass, as well as held meetings with missions and secular movements of the Catholic Church.
The act was witnessed by the governor of Cunene, Gerdina Didalelwa, members of the government, representatives of political parties, traditional and legitimate authorities from different parishes in the country and the neighbouring Republic of Namibia.
