Governor Assesses Socioeconomic Conditions of Luau

Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of the province of Moxico Leste, Crispiniano dos Santos, began a work schedule on Friday in the municipality of Luau, north of Cazombo (the capital), to assess the socio-economic conditions of the region.

The visit by the governor, who recently took over the management of that part of the national territory, inhabited by more than 300 thousand people, aims to assess the conditions of the communication routes between Luau and Cazombo, a route of more than 200 kilometres.

The completion of the asphalting works on the National Road (EN250), specifically on the 160-kilometre stretch between Marco 25/Cazombo, is one of the greatest desires of the population of that recently institutionalised province, in order to stimulate the development of the district. This Saturday, the provincial governor plans to check the progress of the construction work on the photovoltaic park in that district, with a capacity to generate 32.2 megawatts, which is scheduled for completion by the end of this year. Crispiniano dos Santos will also check the local airport “General Rafael Sapilinha Sambalanga”, a modern facility with a runway measuring 2,600 metres long and 45 metres wide, located 10 kilometres from the town of Luau. The Luau General Hospital, opened a year ago, the border post with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the local Agricultural Technical Institute will be other points to be checked by the governor to assess the level of operation. The capital of the province of Moxico Leste is the town of Cazombo, which is over 1,700 kilometres from the country’s capital (Luanda), and is made up of nine municipalities and four communes. The new province of Moxico Leste emerged under the new Political-Administrative Division (DPA) of Angola, approved on August 14, 2024, by the National Assembly.
