Africa-Press – Angola. Angola athlete, Mayra Lemos, was elected the best in the youth category by the MMA International Federation, a feat recognized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MINJUD), on Tuesday, Jan 7.

In a note made official, minister Rui Falcão states that Angolan sport is starting the year very well, celebrating yet another achievement for the country.

Mayra Lemos was elected by fans as IMMA’s 2024 youth athlete of the year, an international recognition that fills the country with pride, according to the statement.

The minister states that the victory is a reflection of the talent, dedication and overcoming spirit of the country’s young athletes.

The 15-year-old athlete from the Gracie Barra club was distinguished by winning the gold medal, in August 2024, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, after defeating the English Valentina Penselvalle.

In the 60 kg category and with the white and yellow belt, Mayra has a remarkable trajectory in the sport, holding the gold medal at the World Championships held in Hungary, and bronze in Portugal and Abu Dhabi.
