Handball: Angola Seeks Leadership in the Angola 50 Years Tournament

Africa-Press – Angola. Angola aims to take the lead in the “Angola 50 Years” International Senior Women’s Handball Tournament when they face Lithuania (6 p.m.) in the second round of the quadrangular tournament, taking place at the Kilamba Multipurpose Pavilion in Luanda.

With two points in the standings, thanks to Wednesday’s 25-21 victory over Congo Brazzaville, the national team is surpassed by Portugal.

The Portuguese, with the same two points, lead the tournament in goals scored, having beaten Lithuania 37-23 in the opening round. Therefore, the hosts scored 25 goals and the Portuguese 37.

Playing in front of their home crowd, the “Pearls” should aim for impressive wins to overcome the goal difference, against the “Portuguese,” who are favorites in the 4 p.m. clash against Congo Brazzaville.

If this prediction doesn’t materialize—that is, if Angola wins and Portugal achieves the same result, regardless of who is leading the tournament, the title will be decided in the final round on Saturday between the two contenders.

Regarding today’s 6 p.m. match against Lithuania, there is no history at the senior level, as they have only met in one Junior World Championship, with the Europeans winning.
