Africa-Press – Angola. More than 600 boxes of Cowbell brand milk packets from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), with a label in French, were seized in the country by the National Agency for Food Inspection and Safety (ANIESA).
ANIESA spokesperson, Adérito Mendes, explained that the seized product has information in French and “that the packaging contained grams when in reality it contains only 70 grams of the product inside, which represents suspicion for human consumption”.
“ANIESA advises consumers in general not to purchase products that are not labeled in Portuguese”, he said quoted today.
The Consumer Protection Law establishes that all products placed on the national market must have the labeling in Portuguese, whose measure serves to stop the attempt to enter products that violate the aforementioned legal provision.
Illicit Trade
In a statement, Promasidor Angola, Lda, which is dedicated to the production and distribution of Cowbell milk, clarifies that the intervention made by ANIESA aims to enforce the law by putting an end to illicit trade in a foreign language “and has nothing to do with quality”.
In the document, the company reinforces that the news circulated “are related to inspection activities by ANIESA, which has carried out operations to seize Cowbell milk that enters the country illegally, and whose packaging does not complies with the Angolan labeling law”.
“Since the beginning of the year, Cowbell milk originating in the Congos (Democratic Republic of Congo and Republic of Congo) has been crossing the border illegally and reaching our market,” reads the statement.
According to Promasidor Angola, this illicit trade harms Angola because it does not pay taxes, it penalizes national companies for doing unfair competition, and they do not observe Angolan laws regarding their labeling, which is done in a foreign language (French “Cowbell Notre Lait” ).
“Promasidor Angola takes the opportunity to reinforce to its loyal consumers that the production of Cowbell milk – Our Milk meets the highest international quality standards, and that it is perfectly fit for human consumption”, adds the statement.
Cowbell milk, he emphasizes, is also reinforced with VitaRico, a set of vitamins that make this milk contain 28 vitamins and minerals, for the good and healthy development of children and their families.
“We would like to take the opportunity to publicly express our support for the exceptional work that ANIESA has been doing to protect the Angolan consumer”, concludes the company.
