Political Consultations Strengthen Bilateral Relations between Angola and Venezuela

Africa-Press – Angola. Angola and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela held, this Thursday, in Luanda, the first Meeting of the Political Consultation Mechanism, which focused on strengthening bilateral relations between the two States. The meeting, which took place at the headquarters of Angolan diplomacy, was led by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Esmeralda Mendonça, and the Vice-Minister for Africa of the Ministry of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Yuri Pimentel.According to a note from MIREX, the two entities led the talks, which also reassessed the state of cooperation in the political-diplomatic, economic and commercial fields, with a focus on the diamond sector.

“The delegations reviewed some issues of common interest and reflected on the actions that the two countries can implement to reinvigorate bilateral cooperation,” according to the note.

The heads of delegations also presented updated overviews of the political and economic developments of their countries, where they discussed the progress achieved and the challenges faced.In economic terms, the parties recognised the potential of the two countries, both oil producers, and stressed the importance of creating synergies to address fluctuations in the international market and promote the diversification of their respective national economies.

In the context of foreign policy, the delegations exchanged views on regional, international and multilateral issues, with particular emphasis on the Angolan Presidency of the African Union, the persistent conflicts in certain regions of the African continent and the prospects for cooperation between the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States and the African Union.

Political and diplomatic relations between Angola and Venezuela date back to 6 December 1986.
