Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Embassy in the United States of America is investing in cultural diplomacy with the first edition of the cultural event called “Kizomba de Raiz”, which took place on Friday in Washington D.C.The event took place at the Diplomatic Mission and brought together more than 100 participants from different social backgrounds and nationalities, including diplomats, members of the Angolan community living in Washington, D.C., representatives of the private sector, institutional partners, academics and US citizens.
According to a note sent to JA Online, it was part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of National Independence.
On the occasion, Ambassador Agostinho Van-Dúnem stressed the growing importance of cultural diplomacy as an instrument for bringing people together, and highlighted the role of Angolan music and dance in promoting African cultural values, especially in the United States and the region.
The program included an introductory kizomba class, taught by an instructor, giving those present the opportunity to learn the basic steps of this genuinely Angolan dance.
The event was also enriched with the tasting of national snacks, which contributed to an even more authentic and memorable experience for all participants.
