Africa-Press – Angola. MPLA deputy João Diogo Gaspar highlighted, this Monday, three particularities of the dimension of the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, who will turn 100 years old on 17 September if he were alive, namely political , humanist and intellectual.
A few months away from the centenary of the also considered “major poet”, the parliamentarian highlights that Agostinho Neto is one of the main figures of the last century in Angola, above all, for having become an icon, as a strategist, doctor and writer of “fine pen ”, easily detectable in the writings left for the eternity and observation of all.
For João Diogo Gaspar, the first President of the Republic, born on September 17, 1922, in Kaxicane (Icolo and Bengo), he is a symbol that everyone should be proud of, since many of his achievements today echo the personality of several leaders. He highlighted that the most remarkable achievement for the vast majority is the proclamation of the country’s independence and the autonomy of the Angolan people, facts that will never be erased and that will be remembered for all generations.
He said that from the socio-political, scientific-human and intellectual point of view, mainly in the cultural aspect, Agostinho Neto left a legacy to be perpetuated, reinforcing that the doctor and poet has always been linked to social, political, cultural and other activities, still at the Casa dos Estudantes do Império, while living in Portugal.

“The grandeur of Neto’s works must be passed on from generation to generation, given the historical, cultural and political dimension that it entails. Thus, I appeal to a deep and continuous study, especially by the younger ones, in the understanding and understanding of the thought de Neto”, he reaffirmed.
