The president of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), reelected in light of the Curricular Competition for the Judiciary, Manuel Pereira da Silva, takes office in the National Assembly. The judge Manuel Pereira da Silva won the public curricular competition held by the Superior Council of the Judiciary to fill the vacancy.

According to a note from the National Electoral Commission, after taking office, the judge will be presented to the Plenary of the CNE, during which he will address the guidelines for this five-year term.

According to the final report of the process of evaluation and verification of the applications, Manuel Pereira da Silva obtained the highest score, with 91 points, surpassing his competitors Rosalino Miguel Domingos (48 points) and Amélia Cristina Ernesto Messo e Tyova (33 points).

The curricular competition was launched by the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSMJ) on February 5, 2025, with the aim of filling the vacancy for the presidency of the CNE, in accordance with the legislation in force. According to the document, four applications were received, of which three were accepted. The evaluation of the candidates for the position exceeded the five criteria established by the regulations of the curricular competition, each with a specific weight in the final classification.

The weight selected with the greatest relevance was experience in conducting electoral processes, which represented 40 percent of the total score, valuing practical knowledge and the ability to manage electoral acts efficiently. Seniority in the judiciary had a weight of 25 percent, confirming the length of service and experience accumulated in the judicial system.

Academic training accounted for 15 percent of the score, giving greater value to candidates with advanced degrees, such as masters and doctorates.

General professional merit, with a weight of 10 percent, assessed the path and performance of candidates throughout their career.
