Africa-Press – Angola. The Head of State, João Lourenço, attend Pope Francis’ funeral today in Rome, Italy, at St. Peter’s Basilica, where he travelled. The information was confirmed by the Secretary of the President of the Republic for Institutional Communication and Press Affairs, Luís Fernando, who recalled the meeting between the Head of State and the Supreme Pontiff in the Vatican during his first term.
President João Lourenço, accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, went to the Apostolic Nunciature in Luanda to express his condolences and sign the book of condolences opened in tribute to Pope Francis.At the headquarters of the Vatican diplomatic mission in Luanda, the Head of State was received by the Apostolic Nuncio to Angola and São Tomé, Monsignor Kryspin Dubiel, with whom he held a brief conversation about the moment of mourning that the Catholic Church and the Christian community in general have been experiencing since the death of the Holy Father.
The death of His Holiness Pope Francis, Bishop of Rome and Leader of the Catholic Church, President João Lourenço stressed, is a heavy blow to the world and an immense loss for Catholic Christians, who saw in him one of the great hopes for the construction of a more just and balanced world, for having been a leader committed to peace, social justice and the most disadvantaged.
“I present to the Vatican State and to the faithful of the Catholic Church throughout the world, on behalf of the Angolan Executive and on my own behalf, our most heartfelt condolences on the physical passing of this distinguished universal personality”.
