Africa-Press – Angola. The ambassadors of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in the United States of America met on Wednesday in Washington D.C. with SADC Executive Secretary Elias Magosi. According to a note sent Online, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the World Bank’s spring meetings and served as an opportunity for the SADC Executive Secretary to share information on the decisions taken by member countries in recent months regarding infrastructure projects, especially the Smart Corridors underway in the region, as well as the situation of the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Regarding the conflict in the DRC, the Executive Secretary highlighted the role of Angola, in particular the Luanda process and the engagement of SADC in the search for solutions to the conflict in that country, the document adds. On the other hand, he highlighted the cooperation between SADC member states and the European Union and the United States of America, stating that there are platforms for dialogue that allow the establishment of trade agreements for the benefit of the region. For Elias Magosi, Southern Africa needs to diversify its partners and sources of financing for the sake of the economic development of the region, reinforcing that it needs a common strategy, regardless of the particular initiatives of each member country, as well as the need to promote trade between SADC countries. In turn, the group of SADC ambassadors reported on their engagement with the new US administration, especially the migration situation of citizens of member countries, within the scope of the mass deportation process decreed by the US Administration.
