According to the specialist, arterial hypertension is one of the most prevalent pathologies in emergencies and outpatient consultations in health units in Angola, especially in the province of Cuanza-Norte, being among the main causes of hospitalization.

He revealed that a study carried out by him, during the first quarter of the current year, pointed to the existence of 55 cases of the pathology at a reference Medical Center in Sassa, located to the north of the city of Ndalatando, whose daily average of attendance is around the 40 patients.

The also graduated in General Nursing, with the theme of defense “Hypertension: causes and consequences”, stressed that effective control of blood pressure allows screening, early treatment and prevention of complications related to that pathology.

He stressed the importance of implementing programs for the control and treatment of hypertension at the level of health units in the country with greater reference, but added the imperative need of hospital managers to provide access to information, so that professionals are trained.

Jeremias José defines arterial hypertension or high blood pressure as a disease that attacks blood vessels, heart, brain, eyes and can cause kidney failure. It occurs when the pressure measurement is frequently above 140 per 90 millimeters of blood.

He made it known that mild hypertensive patients should opt for weight control, healthy and balanced diet and physical exercise, such as brisk 30-minute walks, five times a week. Reducing the consumption of alcoholic beverages can also help in controlling the levels of the disease. It concluded that, in the particular case of individuals with more advanced levels of the disease, it is necessary to comply with the doctor’s guidelines, periodically checking blood pressure levels and taking the prescribed medications on a regular basis.
