Electoral Code: UNITA Defends Fixed Polling Stations with up to 750 Voters

Africa-Press – Angola. The UNITA Parliamentary Group defended, in Luanda, that fixed polling stations with 750 voters be maintained in the next elections, as well as not allowing votes outside the polling station where the voter is registered.

Speaking at a press conference, to justify the proposal to change the electoral legislative package of this formation, the president of the UNITA Parliamentary Group, Liberty Chiyaca, said that in relation to the presidency of the CNE, the group defends that it ceases to be appointed by the Superior Council of the Judicial Magistracy.

It proposes that he be elected by the CNE Plenary from among three candidates selected among the Commissioners from Civil Society and approved by the Plenary of the National Assembly.

According to Liberty Chiyaca, it is also proposed that citizens who turn 18 by the first Tuesday of the last fortnight of August of the election year may be included in the Database of Adult Citizens and in the Computer File of Adult Citizens (FICM) updated and submitted to the CNE in the previous year.

The unofficial electoral register must also be eliminated until the updated FICM is issued and delivered to the CNE.

Regarding accreditation, it advocates increasing the deadline from 10 to 30 days for the delivery of the lists of Delegates accredited by the CNE to the Political Parties.

Liberty Chiyaca made it known that, despite the differences of viewpoint, the UNITA Parliamentary Group expresses its willingness to seek consensus and approve laws that are fair and democratic during the discussion and debates in the Specialty.
