Africa-Press – Angola. Angola’s Minister of Education has stated that there is a need for 2,573 new schools to reduce the number of students studying in precarious conditions and the entry of new students, local press reported.

According to Luísa Grilo, who was speaking to the press on the sidelines of the 12th Conference on Teaching and Learning and the 14th Round Table of the African Federation of Education Regulatory Authorities, which is still taking place today in the Angolan province of Huíla, this number of schools, with 12 classrooms, is necessary.

Luísa Grilo, quoted by the Angolan news agency, Angop, highlighted that the current school year had 80 new schools, totaling 12,627 schools across the country.

The Angolan leader stressed that there is also a shortage of teachers, estimated at more than 60 thousand professionals, a number that will undergo an update process to assess the student-teacher ratio.

The head of the Education Ministry in Angola considered it a “difficult task” to be a teacher in this Portuguese-speaking country, due to the difficulties she faces in getting students to assimilate the knowledge transmitted.

“It’s a shame that we don’t see teaching as the profession of professions, because no one graduates without it, so it should be more cherished, more valued”, said Luísa Grilo.
