Angola Prepares Agenda for Participation in COP30

Africa-Press – Angola. Angola has already prepared its agenda to present during the 30th Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP30), an event to be held from 10 to 21 November in Brazil, the Minister of the Environment reported on Thursday in Luanda. According to Ana Paula de Carvalho, the topics to be discussed include “Food security”, “Energy transition”, “Circular economy”, “Bio-economy” and “Climate finance”. Speaking to the press at the end of the 2nd Meeting of the National Commission for Climate Change and Biodiversity (CNACB), the Minister reported that, in terms of climate change, the Nationally Determined Strategy was presented, a communication integrated into the National Strategy for Climate Change (ENAC), with a view to reducing greenhouse gases. The National Adaptation Plan, a document that is part of ENAC, was also presented.Regarding biodiversity, Ana Paula de Carvalho recalled that Angola, as a member of the Convention on Biological Diversity, participated last year in the Conference of the Parties (COP16), where it presented ENAC and its biodiversity action plan for the period 2025/2030.

According to the minister, Angola has already completed the National Biodiversity Strategy and its action plan, and only needs to comply with the following procedures for publication by Presidential Decree. The country, she said, is developing many positive actions, such as the energy transition and the move away from thermal lighting, in addition to a strong focus on solar energy. “At the moment, we already have a production of around 6 gigawatts, which is quite acceptable”, she said.
