Africa-Press – Angola. The family of former Gabonese President Ali Bongo has been released and arrived in Luanda, after several contacts made by the Angolan head of state and leader of the African Union, João Lourenço, the Angolan presidency announced.
The same source reports that, with the intervention of João Lourenço with the current President of Gabon, Brice Nguema, Bongo’s family was released and arrived on Thursday night in the Angolan capital, Luanda.
Brice Oligui Nguema led the coup that ousted his cousin, Ali Bongo, on August 30, 2023, the same day that the official results of that year’s presidential election were announced, which observers say were marked by manipulation and lack of credibility.
The President of Gabon won the presidential elections held on April 12 this year.
