Africa-Press – Angola. The 1st constituent congress of the Liberal Party (PL) begins this Saturday 17th, in the province of Huambo, to elect the president and the governing bodies of the organization.
“The conditions have been created for the start of our 1st constituent congress this Saturday, which will be attended by 200 delegates,” the coordinator of the conclave’s organizing committee, Manuel Ramos, told Novo Jornal.
According to this official, the Liberal Party, already legalized by the Constitutional Court (TC), will have as its only candidate the militant Luís Castro.
It should be noted that of the 14 political parties legalized by the Constitutional Court (TC), nine will hold their ordinary congresses with a view to holding the 2027 general elections.
According to Novo Jornal, the political organizations that will hold their conclaves include UNITA, the Democratic Bloc, the Angolan Majority Free Alliance Party (PALMA), the Angolan Pacific Party (PPA), the National Party for the Salvation of Angola (PNSA), PRA-JA Servir Angola, the Liberal Party, the CIDADANIA Party and PADDA-Patriotic Alliance.
Two congresses are scheduled for this month, that of the Liberal Party (PL), on the 17th and 18th, and that of PRA-JÁ Servir Angola, from the 19th to the 22nd of May.
Of these conclaves, only the PRA-JA Servir Angola has two candidates, namely Abel Chivukuvuku and Francisco Canga, while the PL has one candidate, the current president, Euclides Luís de Castro.
The Democratic Bloc announced that it will elect the new party president on August 15, 16 and 17 of this year.
