Africa-Press – Angola. A fire left 17 injured yesterday morning, four of whom were serious, on an oil platform in Angola belonging to a Chevron subsidiary, the National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency (Anpg) announced.

In the statement, the Angolan concessionaire said that the fire occurred around 3:00 am, on the basement deck of the Benguela Belize Lobito Tomboco (BBLT) deep-water platform of Cabinda Golf Oil Company Limited (Cabgoc), located in Block 14, in the maritime zone of Cabinda.

According to Anpg, the injured are all now on land and receiving appropriate medical care, with the cause of the incident being investigated.

“The incident occurred at a time when the BBLT facility was undergoing annual maintenance, as part of a scheduled shutdown activity, with all production at the site having been closed since May 1st,” the note states.

The statement describes that Cabgoc responded immediately and successfully extinguished the fire, with all protocols being activated to carry out emergency response procedures and notify the relevant authorities.

The Angolan concessionaire stressed that the priority at this time is “to guarantee the safety of all personnel, ensure the best possible care for the injured and determine the root cause of the incident”.

Cabgoc is a subsidiary of Chevron in Angola, which operates two concessions on behalf of its partners in Block 0: Sonangol EP (41%), TotalEnergies EP Petroleum (Angola) SAS. (10%), and Azule Energy Angola Production BV (9.8%); and in Block 14: Sonangol P&P (20%), Angola Block 14 BV (20%), Azule Energy Angola (20%), and Etu Energias (9%).
