Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan women’s handball team 1o de Agosto beat AS Otoho of Congo Brazzaville 35-20 on Tuesday in Cairo, Egypt, thus qualifying for the semi-finals of the 41st edition of the African Cup Winners’ Cup.

Angolan player Dolores do Rosário, who scored seven goals, was considered the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the match, due to her performance.

In the competition, 1o de Agosto team beat Abidjan HBC 34 to 19, as well as the TKC, from Cameroon by 35 to 16. In addition they lost to Al Ahly, from Egypt, 22 to 25.

However, the team led by José Terça Chuma (defending champions), at the end of the group stage had scored 91 goals and conceded 60.

After this achievement, 1o de Agosto will face another Angolan team, Petro de Luanda, in the semi-final, scheduled for Thursday.

It is worth noting that Petro de Luanda also defeated TCK, from Cameroon, by 29 to 17, in a match in which defender Chelcia Gabriel was elected MVP, scoring seven goals.

To reach the quarter-finals, Petro de Luanda finished top of group A, undefeated, with eight points from four wins. The team scored 112 goals and conceded 50.

In their debut, they beat AS Sahel from Tunisia, 32-15, the National Bank from Egypt, 37-12, FAP from Cameroon, 42-23, and AS Otoho from Congo Brazzaville, 32-20.
